Anxiety attacks can happen suddenly, sometimes without warning, they can also come on by triggers. An anxiety attack is an intense episode of intense fear. People use the term “Anxiety Attack” to describe many kinds of anxious or stressful responses, however “Anxiety Attack” is not a formal clinical term. People use the term “Anxiety Attack” to describe their response to a range of worries and fears.



Symptoms of an Anxiety Attack may vary in each individual. Some people may experience mild symptoms of anxiety, while for others symptoms may be more severe. Some Anxiety related symptoms include:

  • Apprehension
  • Diarrhea
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Dry mouth
  • Irritability
  • Lightheadedness
  • Headache
  • Muscle tension
  • Nausea
  • Rapid heart rate
  • Shaking
  • Sweating
  • Tightness in the chest and throat
  • Trouble concentrating
  • Worry

If you have ever experienced a sudden and intense feeling of terror for no reason, it may have been a panic attack and not an anxiety attack. Panic attacks are not dangerous however it may feel like a medical issue for some people. Anxiety attacks differ from panic attacks in how long they last. Anxiety attacks last for hours and sometimes days, panic attacks last for about 10 to 20 minutes. Some symptoms of panic attack include:

  • Chest discomfort or chest pain
  • Chills or hot flushes
  • Fear of dying
  • Fear of losing control or going crazy
  • Feeling dizzy, unsteady, lightheaded or faint
  • Feeling of choking
  • Feelings of unreality
  • Heart palpitations, pounding heart, or accelerated heart rate
  • Nausea or abdominal distress
  • Numbness or tingling sensations
  • Sensations of shortness of breath or smothering
  • Sweating
  • Trembling or shaking



If you feel that you’ve been experiencing anxiety symptoms, it may be a good idea to talk to your health care provider. Your doctor pay perform some tests to find a cause for your symptoms. If they can not find a physical cause for the symptoms then they may refer you to a mental health professional for further evaluation. There are effective treatments in combating anxiety, some include medications and psychotherapy. Getting adequate sleep, eating healthy, and maintaining a balanced healthy lifestyle may also help in keeping down high levels of anxiety.
