DESCRIPTION:Anti-Asian/American and xenophobic harassment are on the rise across the US — and the world. In this virtual Zoom workshop sponsored by Asian Americans Advancing Justice | Chicago\, CAIR Chicago\, and Hollaback!\, you’ll learn how you can intervene effectively as a bystander without compromising your safety. \nThis 60-90 minute\, interactive training will teach you Hollaback!’s 5D’s of bystander intervention methodology. We’ll start by talking about the types of discrimination that Asian and Asian American folks are facing right now – from microaggressions to violence. You’ll then learn what to look for and the positive impact that bystander intervention has on individuals and communities. \nWe’ll talk through five strategies for intervention: distract\, delegate\, document\, delay\, and direct; and how to prioritize your own safety while intervening. With that in mind\, it is the goal of NAFSCE and the U.S. Department of Ed provide parents and practitioners with the latest research and information so parents are able to make the best decision they can around vaccinating their children. This webinar is a unique opportunity for parents and family engagement practitioners to ask questions\, share their ideas and concerns\, and to get their questions answered. \nPlease join NAFSCE and the U.S. Department of Education on December 9 at 8:00pm\, ET for an informational webinar following the official approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech age 5-11 vaccine.
